Turning Off Background Colors & Images For Printing
You can save ink by TURNING OFF the BACKGROUND COLORS when printing
from a web site. Here is a STEP-BY-STEP guide for the most popular web browsers:
 Steps For Internet Explorer  |  Steps For Netscape 4.7  |   Steps For Netscape 6.0
 
Steps For Internet Explorer:  Turning Off Backgrounds For Print
    • In the toolbar at the TOP of your browser window, click on "Tools"

    • From the drop-down menu that appears, click on "Internet Options"

    • From the Internet Options window, click on "Advanced"

    • Scroll down until you find the option for "Printing"

    • UNCHECK the box in front of:  Print background colors and images.

    • *To UNCHECK this box, simply CLICK inside the box
Steps For Netscape Communicator 4.7:
Turning Off Backgrounds For Print
    • In the toolbar at the TOP of your browser window, click on "File"

    • From the drop-down menu that appears, click on "Page Setup"

    • UNCHECK the box in front of:  "Print backgrounds"

    • *To UNCHECK this box, simply CLICK inside the box.

Okay, friends...I NEED YOUR HELP!

I DOWNLOADED the newest version of the Netscape browser on March 22, 2002. I'm THRILLED with how well my web site is displayed compared to the OLD version! (Graphics didn't display correctly on all pages in the older version!)

BUT...I have not been able to determine HOW to turn off the background colors for printing in this NEW version!

I did an Internet search under a variety of topics, but could NOT find the answer!!!

So, if any of my programmer friends out there happen to READ THIS and KNOW THE ANSWER, please contact me and LET ME KNOW!  :-)

The art of printing documents sourced from the Internet is not precise; in fact, it is totally browser-dependent! What prints beautifully on one browser will look dissimilar on another browser. As an example, an image used as a background for a table prints properly, appearing behind the whole table in Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0, while for some reason known only to Netscape, the image tries to fit itself into each cell of a table in Netscape 4.0 - even though there is a cell background command which is designed for that purpose. This is the main reason why we recommend IE4 as the browser of choice for printing documents...Netscape is iffy!
