2010 Man & Woman of the Year Campaign
to Benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

Donate to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

I was honored to have been a candidate in the "2010 Man and Woman of the Year Campaign" to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society! 2010 was the first year of a now annual 10-week friendly competition among candidates to raise vital funds for LLS. The man and woman who raised the most funds between March 10, 2010 through May 19, 2010 were declared the winners of the 2010 competition. I came in 2nd place, having raised $8,476.51. Many thanks to my family and friends for their neverending support throughout the campaign. I will be eternally grateful for your help.

Deena Alansky, Candidate
2010 Man & Woman of the Year Campaign
to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

History:

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Man & Woman of the Year (MWOY) campaign began in Northern California in 1990. In 2009 the campaign was launched nationally.

The Competition:

Candidates competing for the title of 2010 Man & Woman of the Year are judged solely on a philanthropic basis – on their success in generating funds for LLS from the date of the Kickoff Party until the Grand Finale Celebration. Every dollar raised is counted as one vote. The male and female candidate with the most votes accumulated will be named the 2010 Man & Woman of the Year. Their totals will also be submitted for the national titles.

The Goal:

The Pittsburgh Area’s 2010 Man & Woman of the Year campaign is expected to raise $157,000 to fund LLS’s mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and improve the quality of life for patients and their families.

Grand Finale Celebration:

Sponsors, candidates, campaign teams, friends, family, survivors, and other LLS supporters will gather for the announcement of the Man & Woman of the Year at the Grand Finale Gala Party. The evening will include cocktails, food, music, a reverse raffle to win a Mercedes-Benz and a silent auction. Attendance is expected to be 500-600. Grand Finale date:  May 21, 2010

Candidate Profile:

The candidates competing for Man & Woman of the Year are individuals from both the social and business communities who are motivated by supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and by the visibility the campaign generates. The competition generates tremendous publicity for the winning candidates by means of press releases and exposure in print advertisement.

Characteristics of candidates include:  Ambitious, Competitive, Philanthropic, Extroverted, Community and Business Leaders, with many having a personal interest in the mission of the Society.

Visibility:

Because of the promotion plan developed for the event, participation in the Man & Woman of the Year event offers sponsors tremendous potential for advertising, publicity and sales promotions, while enhancing their image of public consciousness and concern in the community.
